Studio Door

Sandy Holman Sackett

Come on in! It’s a pleasure to have a fellow painter stop by and spend some time with me. This is my favorite room in the house. It’s where I spend most of my days so I have all my favorite things around me. I’ve done extensive traveling over the past three years with the trade shows, travel teaching and vacations but I am always glad to be back to this little retreat

Studio Picture #1

As you can see, it is painted in soft mauve and white colors, which I find very relaxing. Please make yourself comfortable on the sofa. To your left are magazines and books to look through while we visit. Oh, and help yourself to a cookie. It’s not uncommon for me to spend 16 hour days in this room, especially when a new book is in progress, so I always have plenty of desk-top cookies on hand. If you like them, I’ll give you the recipe (below).

Studio Picture #2

I hope you don’t mind if I pull up a chair and paint for a spell. For some reason, this chair keeps calling me back to it. All of my paints are displayed directly in front of me so everything is in arms reach. I’m pretty sure that’s how it’s done in heaven.

Anyway, I’m trying to get this new design painted before my granddaughters arrive. Kaitlyn is 2 years old and thinks this room is a bowling alley. One swipe of her hand and she can take out an entire shelf of paints. Hanna, however, has just turned 4 and loves to paint! She looks like a little angel when she is sitting at Grandma’s painting table. The halo quickly disappears and the screams commence when I tell her that painting time is over. Those two sprites don’t have any problem pulling me away from this room with a smile on my face. Considering the fact that I was raised with three brothers and then raised two sons, it is wonderful to finally have some girls in my life.

Gosh, it’s almost time for dinner. I guess I should be thinking of something to fix even though my husband loves to cook more than I do. But considering the fact that we were just married nine months ago, I feel I should make an appearance in the kitchen now and then.

I’m so glad you stopped by. Please come as often as you like. I see my cookie plate is empty. I knew you would like them. Here’s the recipe I promised you:

Melt In Your Mouth Sugar Cookies

Ingredients needed:

  • 2 cups flour

  • ¾ teaspoon soda

  • 1 teaspoon  cream of tarter

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup margarine

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • 1 egg beaten

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Sift dry ingredients in bowl. Cut in shortening. Add remaining ingredients. Chill. Shape into 1” balls and smash down with a glass that has been dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Do not overbake. These freeze well.
