PREPARATION
Copy the patterns onto tracing paper. Lay the patterns directly
under the screens and tape in place. Draw the main pattern lines
only onto the screens with the white chalk pencil. Remove patterns.
It will take two of the basecoat colors for adequate coverage but
the squares will eventually fill in and those that don't will add
character to the screen look. Between applications, elevate the
screens to allow the backsides to dry. When basecoats have dried,
transfer the details with graphite paper and continue directions for
shading, highlighting and details.
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
The basecoat colors are applied by loading the brush heavily with
paint and very gently sliding the paint over the screen surface.
Applying pressure or pouncing the paint on will cause the paint to
push through to the backside of the screen.
Basecoat with the following:
- White: Ghosts
- Yellow: Moons and star
- Pumpkin: Pumpkins
- Light Timberline Green: Pumpkin stems
- Mudstone: Tombstone
- Dolphin Grey: Frames
GHOSTS: Shade with
Mudstone. Accent lightly in the highlighted areas with floats of
Dolphin Grey. Dry brush the cheeks with Georgia Clay. Paint the eyes
and mouth with Black.
MOONS AND STAR:
Shade with Golden Brown and highlight with Crocus Yellow.
TOMBSTONE: Shade
with Hammered Iron. Deepen shading on top and bottom of tombstone
with Paynes Grey. Paint the letters Black.
PUMPKINS: Shade with
Georgia Clay and highlight with Yellow. Base the stems with Light
Timberline Green. Shade the bottom of stems with Paynes Grey and
highlight the tops of stems with Yellow. Outline details on ghosts
and pumpkins with diluted Paynes Grey.
FRAMES: Streak down
each frame section with a little Hammered Iron and then again with
Mudstone. Apply this as you would a dry brush, but leave the brush
still wet with paint. Float around the corners of the frames with
Paynes Grey. Paint the squares or stencil on with Paynes Grey. The
sparkles are White.
FINISHING
Spray lightly with Matte Spray Finish.
